Shibuya City Guide( Shibuya Ward, Shibuya-ku )

Shibuya City Overview

Multiple train lines intersect around Shibuya Station making access by train extremely convenient. Fashionable and trendy shopping areas such as Daikanyama, Ebisu, Shibuya, and Omotesando are all within walking distance from Shibuya station. Those looking for a more natural setting will find Yoyogi Park and Shinjuku Gyoen Garden to their liking. Luxurious residential areas such as Hiroo, Shoto, Yoyogi-Uehara are located in Shibuya City. Many embassies, facilities, and services for foreigners are concentrated around the Hiroo area.

In many areas around the Shibuya station, large-scale redevelopment construction is now underway. Most construction is aiming for a partial business opening in the year 2020 for the Tokyo Olympic Games. In the Sakuragaoka area near the station, a multi-purpose high rise building will be built. The city is aspiring to reinvent itself as a focal point for international tourism and the cutting edge of Japanese youth culture. A general all-around improvement to the convenience of life for foreign residents is also expected to change in the future.
