Living in Shirokane

Shirokane is an upper-class residential area with an abundance of urban greenery in Central Tokyo. There are highly discreet prestigious restaurants and boutiques dotted along the elegant and tree-lined ‘Platinum Street’ (Shirokane = platinum in Japanese).

The residential areas are around Shirokanedai Station, where Megro Dori Street and Gaien-Nishi Dori Street (also called ‘Platinum Street’) intersect and also in the eastern area along Sakurada Dori Street. The addresses of Shirokane lie in the north and those of Shirokanedai lie in the south. There is also a Shirokane-Takanawa Station in the north, under the Sakurada Dori Street.

Platinum Street is surrounded by a quiet and luxurious residential area. The nearby Institute of Nature Study provides the area with quite a bit of urban greenery. Many foreigners also live in this area. Luxurious condominiums can be found along Meguro Dori Street around Shirokanedai Station as well as some facilities with beautiful Japanese gardens; such as the Sheraton Miyako Hotel and Happoen.

The area around Shirokane-Takanawa Station on the Tokyo Metro Nanboku Line and the Toei Mita Line is a recently redeveloped area. Luxurious mixed use condominiums, such as Shirokane Tower and Shirokane AER City, are attracting lots of attention for their convenience and quality. In the hill top area away, not too far from the street, there are some high grade condominiums surrounded by urban greenery. There are many luxury apartments for rent that are popular among foreigners.
