We have published the video of the lecture on food waste in Japan and the differences in date labeling (in English) held at EXPAT EXPO TOKYO 2024. This is the second part of the video about 'Mottainai'.

In 2022, Japan generated an estimated 4.72 million metric tons of food waste. This is a significant amount. In this video, we’ll explore the major sources of food waste in Japan and the actions being taken to reduce it. We’ll also explain the differences between "Use By" and "Best Before" dates, and discuss whether it’s safe to eat expired food.

  • We have launched CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Initiatives

    Plaza Homes Ltd. and All Japan Relocation Inc. have launched a food bank project (Food Bank Azabu) as part of our CSR projects. A food collection center for the needy, will be set up on the first floor of our company (1-9-12 Azabudai, Minato-ku, Tokyo) to accept surplus food from neighborhood residents and the foreign community. We deliver the food to support groups for the needy and refugee assistance organizations.

    We have released a video of the lecture on the theme of the "Mottainai" spirit delivered at EXPAT EXPO TOKYO 2024. In this lecture, we discussed the values deeply rooted in Japanese culture, the historical background of "Mottainai," recycling practices during the Edo period, and ways to apply these principles in modern society.
  • Poverty Situation in Japan: Reality and Challenges

    Despite Japan being perceived as a prosperous country from abroad, the poverty situation in Japan is severe, with many people facing poverty. The reality becomes evident when considering the relative poverty rate and the number of individuals receiving social welfare benefits. Notably, poverty has intensified in various households, including elderly households, households with individuals who are ill or disabled, and single-parent households with children. The impact of poverty is also reflected in the inadequate access to meals, as evident by the limited number of breakfasts and lunches for children. This article summarizes the current reality of Japan's poverty situation and highlights the challenges it presents.
