The British School’s Food Drive Initiative
We recently received a kind proposal from the British School to contribute to the food bank as a part of their school community initiative. Through several meetings, we had the opportunity to share details about our activities.
During the meetings, we discussed past presentations given to children at the American School and lectures on the theme of “Mottainai” held at the EXPAT EXPO. Building on these experiences, we prepared slides tailored for the primary school students of the British School.
On November 25, we delivered a Zoom lecture to the British School’s E-Cool Ambassadors, a group of students aged 7 to 11 selected this year to focus on environmental awareness, sustainability, and kindness towards the local community. The lecture covered the spirit of “Mottainai” and the challenges faced by those who cannot access adequate meals. The children listened attentively and showed great interest by asking many thoughtful questions.
Following this, the entire school came together to collect approximately 20 boxes of food, including rice, pasta, canned goods, British sweets, and tea. The donation ceremony held on December 10 was a heartwarming event that showcased the school’s generosity.
The donated food was distributed to 50 struggling households in Minato City (via Takanawa Food Pantry), 40 refugees as Christmas gifts (via REN), and to support homeless individuals in Yoyogi Park (via Grama Seva Japan). These efforts were warmly received, bringing smiles to many faces.
Finally, the British School expressed their desire to make this an annual activity.
We are deeply grateful for their support and will continue to work together with the local community to promote the spirit of “Mottainai” and make a positive impact.
