The Minami-aoyama is a great place to live if you like shopping for high-end brands, fashion, spas, health clubs, cafes, and more.

The Minami-aoyama area is the area south of Aoyama-dori street and stretches to the northern edge of the Azabu, Hiroo, and Roppongi areas. Minami-aoyama is known for its relaxed yet refined and sophisticated atmosphere. The area is only a short walk from Omotesando Street with it’s wide sidewalks and tree lined road. If you don’t mind a little walking, you can spend your days eating out and shopping around the area without ever having to take the train to visit another area.

Omotesando Street along with Omotesando Hills are one of the main attractions of the area. Along Omotesando Street are high-end brand shops such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Dior among others. Omotesando Hills is another main attraction of Omotesando Street. The building is 3 stories above ground and 3 stories below. Omotesando Hills was constructed in 2006 by the same developers responsible for Roppongi Hills. Aside from high-end shopping restaurants, spas, cafes, and more can be found when you take a path off the main street. If you manage to walk all the way to the end of Omotesando Street you will arrive at Yoyogi Park and the Harajuku area which are a bit easier to get to if you decide to take the train from Omotesando Station (to Meji-jingumae 4 min).

Originally known for antique shops before the bubble era, Kotto dori is now home to boutique fashion shops and cafes. When walking from Omotesando Station along Omotesando Street, take a right after the Ralph Lauren store towards Harajuku or a left Gyre towards Shibuya and you'll find yourself on Cat Street. Cat street is a pedestrian only shopping area that runs between Shibuya and Harajuku and crosses over Omotesando Street. The street is popular as having many fashionable shops focusing on youth fashion and popculture. Aside from fashion, cafe's, restaurants, bars, and food stalls can be enjoyed here as well. Desipite being well known, it is a fairly relaxed atmosphere and not close to as croweded as Harajuku's Takeshita street making it the perfect place for an afternoon stroll.

If you are looking for a cultural experience there are quite a few options. One of the museums that everyone should visit if they have the chance is the Nezu Museum. The museum was founded with the purpose of preserving and displaying the art collection of Tobu Railway Co., Ltd.’s former president Kaichiro Nezu. The majority of the art consists of pre-modern Japanese and east asian art. Over the years the museum’s collection has grown from around 4,500 pieces to over 7,000. Included in the collection are national treasures, Important Cultural Properties, and Important Art Objects.

Within the area is the Aoyama Cemetery. The Cemetery is over 100 years old and is known as the first public cemetery in Japan. While a cemetery may not be on the usual "must see" list Aoyama Cemetery is quite a popular place for visitors. Aoyama Cemetery is about 65 acres of land in Minami Aoyama filled with cherry blossom trees. The cemetery is a not only rich with Japanese history and culture it is also a (span of nature? think of better word). Aoyama Cemetery was Japan's first public cemetery and also has a special area for foriegners as well. The cemetery is the final resting place of many notable people and the famous dog Hachiko, who is buried right beside his owner, Professor Ueno. In the spring the cherry blossom trees create quite the sight when they go into full bloom during the spring.
