Shibuya Overview

The area around Shibuya Station, JR Yamanote Line / Hanzomon Line / Ginza Line.

Shibuya Station is a major terminal station where multiple train lines come across such as the JR line, the Tokyu Toyoko Line, the Tokyu Denentoshi Line, the Keio Inokashira Line, the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line, the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, and the Fukutoshin Line. Therefore it is a very convenient train station. The intersection in front of JR Shibuya Station is very well known as the busiest intersection in the world.

It attracts many tourists from around the world, especially from Southeast Asia. In recent years it has grown to become a must-see spot in Tokyo. Shibuya is very well known and popular among all teens in Japan. It is also famous as the place where many of the new Japanese pop culture trends originates. Besides department stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and concert halls, a number of shops for younger people have filled along both sides of the street overflowing into the end of narrow alleys.

Around Shibuya Station, large-scale redevelopments are currently in progress. The whole town will be reborn by infrastructure enhancements, disaster prevention measures, and tree planting arrangements; and hence will make a significant advance as an international base not only for cultural dissemination but also business.

Although Shoto is located next to Shibuya, it has an unbelievably different atmosphere from Shibuya. In the old days there was a suburban daimyo residence of the Kishu Tokugawa family; and after the Meiji Restoration there was a tea plantation of the Nabeshima family named "Shoto garden", which the place name Shoto is named after. On the gentle sloping landscape, stately luxurious residences with spacious land stand in order. It is a quiet residential environment although it is within walking distance to JR Shibuya station. Many Japanese people with high income such as politicians, celebrities, and business people live in the area. Being close to the British School, this area is also popular among foreign expat families.

    Multiple train lines intersect around Shibuya Station. The fashionable and trendy shopping areas such as Daikanyama, Eibisu, Shibuya and Omotesando are developed around Shibuya Station. You can also find rich greenery in this area thanks to Yoyogi Park and Shinjuku Gyoen Garden. The luxurious residential areas such as Hiroo, Shoto and Yoyogi-Uehara are also found here.
