Shibuya-ku Overview

Multiple train lines intersect around Shibuya Station. Fashionable and trendy shopping areas such as Daikanyama, Ebisu, Shibuya, and Omotesando surround the Shibuya Station area and are all within walking distance. You can also find rich greenery in this area thanks to Yoyogi Park and Shinjuku Gyoen Garden. The luxurious residential areas such as Hiroo, Shoto and Yoyogi-Uehara are also found here, and many embassies, facilities and services for foreigners are concentrated around Hiroo area.

In many areas around the Shibuya station, large-scale redevelopment construction is now under way aiming for a partial business opening in the year 2020 for the Tokyo Olympic Games. In the Sakuragaoka area near the station a multi-purpose high rise building will be built, and the city is aiming to recreate itself as a focal point for international tourism and the cutting edge of Japanese youth culture. A general all-around improvement on the convenience of life for foreign residents is also expected to increase in the future.
